Description
Krishna is considered in Hinduism to be the eighth avatar of the god Vishnu and also a supreme God in his own right. Krishna is one of the most widely revered and popular of all Hindu deities. Krishna’s birthday is celebrated every year by Hindus on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Bhadrapad in the Hindu calendar.
Krishna is often depicted playing the flute which mesmerises all of nature that hears it. His talent for producing sweet tunes from the flute was such that the King of the Peacocks presented to Krishna a peacock feather crown which he accepted and is also depicted in this statue as wearing.
